Revolutionizing pet diagnostics with Moichor

In pet medical care, Moichor is leading the charge with AI-driven advancements in blood work diagnostics. Moichor enhances the accuracy and efficiency of blood work interpretation, creating a brighter future for veterinarians and pet owners.

In this exclusive Q&A, we hear from Shevy Karbasi, CEO and co-founder of Moichor, about their vision and technology, exploring their journey to make pet diagnostics more accessible and accurate.

What problem is Moichor solving in the pet industry?

We are focusing on enhancing blood work diagnostics with the power of AI. Currently, when you take your beloved pet to the clinic, the vet might request blood work. Two companies do that process with technology that’s been around for more than 30 years. We're tackling this issue head-on with cutting-edge computer vision technology.

Can you tell us more about the technology behind your solution?

Certainly. We embarked on our journey by targeting a niche market and gradually expanding. Our passion for pets and diagnostics led us here. Initially, we explored exotic animals like birds and reptiles due to their unique nucleated red blood cells. Our first algorithm was built on 6 million cells. After collecting 100,000 cells, our algorithm confidently identified each cell type. To date, we've worked with 600 different species, including rats, ferrets, koi fish, and even Russian tortoises.

What is your vision for the next 5 years?

Our key differentiator is data. We analyze blood sample cells and associated diagnostic information meticulously. We aim to provide specific diagnostic results to veterinarians across 10,000 clinics in the next five years. Vets are often overwhelmed, and interpreting blood work is time-consuming. Our goal is to assist them in working more efficiently with highly accurate tools while sharing valuable survival statistics based on our data.

Is AI necessary to address this problem?

AI isn't here to replace pathologists or veterinary professionals. Instead, it's a crucial tool that improves access to care. In the past 12-24 months, pet owners have likely experienced fully booked vet appointments. Moichor helps with expanding access to care. Vets can see more patients and process their blood work with greater efficiency and accuracy.

Why should vets choose Moichor over established market giants?

Distribution is a pivotal aspect for us. We build trust by truly getting to know pet professionals. We encourage clinics to use our solution and compare the results to their existing practices. AI screening often reveals more abnormalities.

The two players in the space have great pathologists, but they can’t be on every case because there aren’t enough hands. With Moichor, every case benefits from high-quality service, resulting in better patient care. Even if vet clinics are paying the same price, they’re getting more information and are able to better treat pet patients. It’s simple: it’s better medicine.

Can you tell us more about Moichor’s in-office testing machine that allows vets to run tests instantly?

Our testing machine allows vets to get results much faster. Currently, samples must be shipped overnight and results aren’t received until the end of the next day, causing delays in diagnosis. With our machine, vets receive results on the same day, which is especially critical when dealing with ill pets in need of immediate care.

What excites you most about the pet tech space today?

The pet tech space is brimming with innovation and a genuine desire to improve the well-being of animals. It's a joy to serve veterinarians who are open to integrating AI and improving how they make a difference for pets.

Lastly, what pets do you have?

I have a furry companion, a Golden Retriever named Banana.
