š A bite-sized stat tastier than kibble: U.S. pet expenditure in 2025
Could spending hit $160B?
Morgan Stanley projects U.S. pet industry spending will grow by 3.9% in 2025, reaching an estimated $157 billion. While this represents healthy growth, achieving the $160 billion mark would require a 6% increaseālevels last seen during the pandemic or pre-pandemic years. Historically, pet spending trends align closely with macroeconomic conditions, as discretionary income impacts how we spend on our pets. Also, pet tech innovationsāsuch as longevity-enhancing drugs, convenient gadgets showcased at CES, or financial solutions for pet ownersācould further spur spending. With these factors in play, the pet industry's evolution remains one to watch closely.
š¾ What weāre chasing: Pet tech trends we expect to see in 2025
Healthcare and wellness are getting more precise and personalized
Advanced diagnostic tools powered by AI, wearable health monitors, and integrated telemedicine services are changing how pet owners and vets approach preventative care. Devices like smart collars now track vital signsāheart rate, temperature, and stress levelsāalerting owners to potential health issues before they escalate. Additionally, integrating DNA testing is helping veterinarians and pet owners understand breed-specific health risks and wellness protocols, marking a significant advancement in personalized pet healthcare.
Pet luxuries become necessities with smart tech
Smart home technology is turning high-end pet conveniences into everyday essentials. The pet smart home market is expected to grow by 24% annually through 2028, reflecting increased demand for products that enhance pets' comfort. Advanced climate control systems and intelligent feeding solutions make sure pets remain comfortable and well-fed, especially when owners are away. Automated pet doors and air-purifying furniture, such as LGās AeroCatTower, merge luxury and practicality and create safer and more comfortable living environments
Financial options and robotic pets help more people benefit from pet companionship
As pet care expenses increase, the industry is responding with solutions to make pet ownership more financially viable. For instance, insurance companies are offering flexible financing options and pet insurance plans to meet pet owners where they are. For those unable to care for live animals, robotic companions like Tombotās Jennie offer emotional support without the costs of traditional pet care, providing comfort to seniors and individuals with allergies or mobility limitationsā
